Dear SDSU Student,

By now, you have likely heard of the CARES Act: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. This fund serves, in part, as a means to provide emergency financial aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Per student visa regulations, international students are not eligible to take part in federal benefit programs. In this case, this means that international students are not eligible to receive CARES Act funding.

However, to ensure that you are able to access financial support, San Diego State University has independently secured additional funds for our international student population. This is in recognition that the situation with the pandemic impacts our entire campus community, regardless of status.

Student Survey

As we look to the best way to support our international students with the independently secured funds, we are asking students to fill out the Funding for SDSU International Students survey. Eligible international students have until Monday, May 18, to complete the survey.

Phishing Attempts

Unfortunately, as is typical during periods of unprecedented crisis, scammers are looking to capitalize by way of phishing attempts. Phishing scams appear to originate from a trusted source to trick a user into entering valid credentials or attempt to lure you into revealing your personal identifying information.

If you feel you may have received a phishing attempt or accidentally responded to a suspicious email, please contact SDSU IT Security at [email protected] or [email protected]. SDSU’s Information Technology Services department maintains a site with useful information about phishing and how to avoid it.

Virtual Support Services

During this period of virtual instruction, know that your Aztec family is offering student support through a variety of virtual services. With the close of the spring 2020 semester now days away, we are here to help you finish the semester strong.
